Mean Creek [Feb. 27th, 2005|02:42 pm]

[Soundtrack |Bright Eyes--Lua]

Last night I saw a great movie. The cinematography was just very well done. There were many shots that were just beautiful. Even though you can figure out what is going to happen within the first half hour there is still this eerie inevitability that plays throughout the whole thing. The acting was great considering the cast was so young. The girl who plays Millie was only eleven when they started filming. The moral dilemma that the characters are put in is just very well portrayed. Some scenes have no dialogue but they just show the characters reactions to what is going on and the score works well throughout it all.

To basically sum up the plot:

This kid Sam is beat up by the school Bully, George. Sam's older brother plans out a prank to get back at him. Things go wrong and they are faced with moral dilemma that threatens to tear them and their lives apart.

The cast includes Rory Culkin, Trevor Morgan, and Josh Peck. I think the oldest person in the main cast was in their twenties but they played a teen very well.

Indie-rock boy wonder Conor Oberst's Bright Eyes' released 2 studio album yesterday! The acoustic-flavoured 'I'm wide awake, it's morning' and the electronic, beat-driven partner 'Digital ash in a digital urn'.

On February 14, Bright Eyes will appear on the Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson.

The Gatekeeper [Oct. 1st, 2004|09:31 am]

[Genre |calmcalm]
[Soundtrack |Letters to Cleo-- Anchor]

On Wednesday I saw a film called The Gatekeeper. And OMG, it was great but it really made you think. It's about this border patrol agent named Adam Fields who also works with a vigilante group that attack Mexicans that are crossing the border. So he go undercover in Mexico to travel over the border with the help of a Coyote (a person who helps people cross the border into the US).

Well things happen, i won't go into it 'cause it could ruin the movie, and he ends up in indentured servitude, making crack in this little shack. As the movie progresses his view of the Mexican people changes as does his self-hatred for being half Mexican.

I will say some of the images were disturbing, but the message that was intended got across fully. It was a story that I will never forget. The anger and emotion that he felt and the way these people were being treated was... I don't even know what words to use. But I strongly suggest for people to see the film.

The guy who directed it, John Carlos Frey, is also the producer and plays Adam Fields.

Another New Girl (lol) [Sep. 30th, 2004|10:37 pm]

[Genre |determineddetermined]
[Soundtrack |The Aeffect - Insomnia]

Hey kids.

It looked to me like this community could use some refreshing-

I'm new here.
Love the indie thing.
Found this community through my dear friend sugarplum643

Here's a fun question:

--->If you had to sell all of your CDs to pay for your college tuition or pay off a mafia boss etc.

What ONE album would you grab from your CD collection before you got the hell out of there?

It can be Indie or not.
Guilty pleasure.
Old favorite.

We need to know.

I haven't decided just yet what I would grab.

Come on Get Happy [Sep. 14th, 2004|10:30 am]

[Genre |jubilantjubilant]
[Soundtrack |Rooney-- She doesn't Know]

For some reason I found myself watching "the partridge family casting special" on VH1 the other day and I was quite amazed to see a familiar face at the auditions. Alana Allen who played Jill Simmons, auditioned for Laurie Partridge and got into the finals. She wasn't my favorite in CAMP, but I still think she was great in Turkey Lurkey. :)
